Leakage Tape in Ghana — The Straight Explanation
Leakage tape is the Ghanaian name for self-adhesive butyl rubber waterproof tape. It costs GHS 250 for a 10cm × 5m roll, bonds to wet surfaces, and lasts 10-15 years. If you have seen it called leak seal tape, butyl tape, sealing tape or waterproof tape — it is all the same product.

The Mistake People Make
Buying tape when the real problem is a failed roof. If you are taping a new crack every few weeks, you are not fixing anything — the waterproofing layer has reached the end of its life and the whole surface needs recoating.
A useful rule: more than three separate tape repairs on one roof means it is time for a coating system.
The second mistake is buying tape for rising damp. If the wall is wet at the bottom with a horizontal tide line and white salt deposits, tape will do nothing — water is moving up through the wall from the ground, not in through a defect. That needs a chemical damp-proof course. We would rather tell you that than sell you four rolls that were never going to work.
