Swimming Pool Waterproofing and Crack Repair in Ghana — Concrete Pools, Water Features, Spas

SWIMMING POOL SPECIALIST

Swimming pool waterproofing is specialist work. Get it wrong and you leak thousands of litres per week, damage surrounding structures, and destroy tile finishes.

A concrete swimming pool is essentially a giant water tank designed to look decorative. The waterproofing system underneath the tiles has to hold back 20–100 tonnes of water 24 hours a day.

First — Confirm It Is Actually Leaking

Before you call anyone, including us, do the bucket test. It takes two days, costs nothing, and settles the question.

  1. Fill a bucket with pool water and stand it on the top step, so the bucket water and pool water are at roughly the same level and the same temperature.
  2. Mark the water level inside the bucket and the pool level outside it.
  3. Leave the pool alone for 24–48 hours — no swimming, no topping up. Run the pump as normal.
  4. Compare the two drops.

If both dropped by the same amount, you do not have a leak. That is evaporation, and in Ghanaian heat an uncovered pool can lose 5–10 mm a day quite legitimately. If the pool dropped noticeably more than the bucket, you have a real loss and it is worth investigating.

A second free check: run the test again with the pump switched off. If the pool only loses water when the pump is running, the problem is almost certainly in the plumbing, the pipework, or the filter housing — not the shell. That is a plumber's job and considerably cheaper than re-lining a pool.

Types of Pool Waterproofing We Install

New-Build Pool

Applied to the concrete shell before tile installation. Cementitious crystalline waterproofing on the shell, followed by two-coat polyurethane liquid membrane, then tile adhesive and tiling.

Pool Renovation / Re-lining

For existing pools losing water. Tiles and failed waterproofing removed. New system installed. Re-tiled. 20-year design life.

Localised Crack Repair

For pools with specific cracks. Chase and treat, fleece-reinforce, re-tile the affected area.

Ornamental Water Features and Spas

Fountains, koi ponds, hot tubs. Same technology, sized to fit smaller assemblies.

Signs Your Pool Is Leaking

  • Water level drops more than 25 mm per week (net of evaporation and use — use the bucket test above to separate the two)
  • Dark stains on the pool deck or surrounding walls
  • Wet ground in the pool room / plant room
  • Cracked or loose tiles on the pool shell
  • Efflorescence on adjacent structures
  • Increased chlorine consumption

Cost Ranges

POOL TYPE TYPICAL SIZE FULL COST
Domestic pool 20 – 60 m³ GHS 12,000 – 35,000

Warranty and design life are different things. The 20-year figure is design life — how long the system is engineered to keep holding water. Our warranty is 3 years workmanship plus a 3-year manufacturer material warranty. On a pool, ask any contractor which of the two they are quoting you before you compare prices.
